History of Arambagh Vivekananda Handicapped Organization
The idea of setting up Arambagh Vivekananda handicapped Organisation cropped up in the heart of a couple of kind- hearted people living in the town of Arambagh and took a shape when Arambagh Municipality felt the need for rehabilitation of the handicapped in the society.
Rehabilitation of the disabled as it is felt by the organizers, is not an easy task .
It requires tremendous effort to make the disabled fit for making a living or playing a part in the world . It is not simply to find a job for the handicapped but to make him an independent member of the society by helping him overcome his handicapping limitations.
The heart of the few who really think for proper development of the society gets inspiration from the afore said idea and has ultimately led them establish this Organisation .
The Organisation is located in the heart of the town of Arambagh, Ward No- 3 , Dist.- Hooghly , West Bengal. It aims at providing comprehensive education and vocational training to various kinds of handicapped children.
The short experience in the field makes the organizers reveal the truth that once neglected and looked upon as burden on their families and society having a negative, apathetic and fatalistic attitude towards these retarded children now bid fair to show signs of potentialities inherent in them in various fields of work with ample opportunities to stand on their own feet.
The Broad Perspectives
It is a multi- purpose modernized institution for all kinds of handicapped children . Its main purpose is to provide education and need- based vocational training to the hearing impaired, mentally retarded, cerebral palsied and visually impaired children irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
One of its prime objective is all round development of the children through integrated training after following the prescribed curriculum of the educational institutions of the state.
To achieve this goal the Organisation tries to make the best use of the techniques invented in modern times for education of the handicapped.
The vocational training that is provided here aims at making a learner economically self-dependent .
The Organisation also aims at fostering useful training to the guardians, developing a rationalistic attitude free from all kinds of superstitions towards the handicapped among the common mass and to make them aware of how to combat the handicapcy by arranging symposiums , seminars, training camps, processions and the like .
